Proprieties and Vagaries: A Philosophical Thesis from Science, Horse Racing, Sexual Customs, and Politics by Albert L. Hammond
Published 1961
This super interesting philosophical book is in good condition. The only flaw is some wear and tear on the dust jacket. The book appears to be unread and the pages and text are clear and clean with no signs of foxing. The cream colored hard cover underneath is lovely.
"A constant influence upon human action is that of proprieties, personal and social. These attitudes and traditions-our sense of what is proper- are largely logical in origin, but chance has a way of upsetting them. Even theory, which is part of human action, is subject to this influence. If, as Aristotle says, habit is second nature, habits or manners can be national as well as muscular. Dr. Hammond's strikingly original and completely unconventional exploration of this philosophical theme uses a novel approach."
