Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, First Edition, Alfred Knopf, 1964
Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator, Second Printing 1972
These two amazing classic books are in decent condition. There is some wear to the hardcovers and the dust jackets are not present. Please see photos for more accurate representation of the condition of these books.
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory: This book is a first edition, possible 3rd printing. It has a 4 line colophon and pygmy illustrations on page 72. This is significant because almost all printings after this edition were revised. Many changes to the story were made, most notably, the Oompa Loompas were changed from small dark skinned pygmy-like people, to much lighter skinned creatures. The hardcover of this book is not in the best shape. There are spots of discoloration and wear. The outside edges are pretty beat up. The inside pages, text and illustrations are beautiful and there are no markings or inscriptions.
Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator: This book is stated 1972 Second Printing. There is some wear to this hardcover as well, but nothing major. The only significant defect is an inscription by the previous owner, written in pencil, on the first page. Please see photos for reference.
This set would make a spectacular gift for any book collector or lover of Roald Dahl!
